Plan today for tomorrow
Audio programme · Introduction + 8 sessions + 8 workbooks
Your family should not have to guess.
Most of us know we need to sort this stuff out. Most of us keep putting it off.
Our wills. Our paperwork. Who would deal with the money. What would happen if Mum or Dad needed care. The conversations we know we should have, but somehow never quite get round to.
The Last Ten Years Audio Programme gives you a way to sit down, work through it one area at a time, and understand what you need to do next.
The crisis before the crisis
What if something happens tomorrow?
We all know that, at some point, we’re going to die. Or, as I tend to put it, emigrate to heaven. Whatever that means for you.
But there’s a crisis that can come before that. A stroke. A serious illness. A fall. Something that means you’re still here, but you can’t manage things in the way you did yesterday.
That’s what I mean by Half Dead Thinking. It’s a blunt phrase, I know. I’m asking you to think about what happens if you’re alive, but unable to deal with the money, make a particular decision, or look after yourself.
Who gets the first phone call? Who looks after the house? Who pays the bills? Who can legally deal with the bank? And who knows how you would want to be cared for?
“My wife will sort it out.”
“My daughter knows what I want.”
Do they? Have you asked them?
Those are the questions we work through in this programme.
Personal admin. Emotional admin. Family decisions.
Doing nothing is a decision.
Most people put this off because they don’t want to think about it. I understand that. I’ve done it myself.
But the paperwork and the decisions don’t disappear. Very often, they land on the people we love at a point when they’re already struggling.
You don’t have to plan for every eventuality. You don’t have to get everything sorted today. The starting point is to understand what’s in place, what’s missing, and what needs checking.
Some of that is personal admin. Some of it is a conversation. And some of it needs proper professional advice. The programme helps you start working out which is which.
What you get
Listen. Download. Do.
There is an introduction, followed by eight audio sessions. Each session has its own downloadable PDF notes and workbook, with questions, a checklist and space to work out your next steps.
Work through the programme in order, or dip into the section that matters to you now. Pause when you need to. Have the conversation. Find the document. Write down the question you need answered.
By the end, the aim is to have a written outline of:
- What you already have in place.
- What needs reviewing or updating.
- What is missing, and who needs to be involved.
- What needs professional advice.
- The next actions you have decided to take.
You’re creating a starting point that you and the people helping you can understand.
Inside the programme
Eight areas to work through.
AUDIO 01
Doing Nothing Is a Decision
What have you been putting off? Think about who depends on you, what worries you, and the things you want to protect. Choose where to start.
AUDIO 02
What If Something Happens Tomorrow?
Work through the first week and the first month of an unexpected illness or loss of independence. Who takes charge, what keeps running, and where is the information?
AUDIO 03
Who Can Make Decisions For You?
Look at powers of attorney, the people you would choose, and the conversations around the forms. Do they know? Can they cope? Are they still the right people?
AUDIO 04
Treatment, Care and What You Would Want
What does quality of life mean to you? Consider what you want people caring for you to understand, what needs discussing with a health professional, and where your wishes are recorded.
AUDIO 05
Where Would You Live, And Who Would Help?
Look at staying at home, moving closer to family, and other care arrangements. Who are you assuming will help? Have you asked them? And what is plan B?
AUDIO 06
Money, Care Costs and Keeping Things Running
Create a map of the finances: assets, debts, income, bills and the questions that need advice. If you couldn’t manage the money tomorrow, could someone work out what was going on?
AUDIO 07
What Will You Actually Leave Behind? Preparing for Probate and Inheritance
Consider the paperwork, responsibilities and unanswered questions someone may inherit. Make a clearer starting point for the people who will deal with your estate.
AUDIO 08
The Rehearsal: Does Your Plan Work?
Take the plan off the page. Could someone find what they need and understand the next step? Work through it together and identify what still needs sorting.
Who this is for
For you. For your parents. For the people you look after.
You might be thinking about your own arrangements. You might be in your forties or fifties, looking at what’s happening with elderly parents. Or you might be helping a partner, a friend or a neighbour.
Perhaps you’ve already got a will and powers of attorney. That’s a useful start. But when did you last check them? Do the people involved know what you’ve asked of them? Does the rest of the family understand?
You can use these sessions to prepare for those conversations, or to sit down and work through the questions together.
Why I put this together
I wasn’t as prepared as I thought.
After 30 years in financial services, I thought I understood a fair amount about planning. But dealing with serious illness and care in my own family, and with a close friend, showed me how much more there was to consider.
Knowing about the paperwork is one thing. Trying to deal with everything when someone you care about is ill is something else.
The Last Ten Years grew out of Dying to Know, a programme I ran with my friend Jude, who died of cancer in June 2026.
I realised there was more I could be doing. More help I could be offering. This audio programme is one way of helping people start asking the questions before a crisis forces the conversation.
Richard
A few questions you may have.
Do I need to have any paperwork ready?
Start with what you’ve got. If something is missing, write that down. Finding out what isn’t in place is part of the point.
Do I have to do it all in one go?
No. Work at your own pace. Take one area, answer the questions you can, and decide what needs doing next.
Will this tell me which legal, medical or financial decisions to make?
The sessions help you consider your situation and prepare your questions. Decisions about treatment, legal documents, tax and financial arrangements may need advice from the relevant qualified professional.
Are workshops or one-to-one sessions included?
This product is the audio programme and its eight PDF workbooks. Workshops, workplace or group talks, and one-to-one or family sessions are separate options. Get in touch if you’d like to discuss those.
Need some help?
Let’s have the conversation.
