“I work with people who want to become financially independent. Those who want to have a different relationship with money and want to understand and learn how this money stuff works.”

Much of my work with those, who so far have been pretty crap with money and understand things need to change.”

Money, scams and making the most of what you have. These are the conundrums we all face. How to avoid one and do more of the other is where I do my best work. I have no products to sell, but I do have the best financial education you can buy.

I strongly believe in the idea of Civic Humanism. To get involved in politics, to leverage our money to create time freedom in order use that time to change things. To freely pass on talents and skills for the greater good and for our own prosperity, these are things that made renaissance times very different. I believe that we are today in similar times and that everything is about to change. How we manage our minds and our money is one part of that.

After thirty years in financial services. I realised that more people than ever needed the knowledge that is in my head and I had to get serious about providing a financial education service.

MoneyTrainers was born.

No longer do I do much face to face work. But I do a lot of group workshops – on the subject of making money make sense. And dealing with the thorny issue of living too long, making your money work for you.

I have written extensively for the Financial Times Group on..

Financial Scams and Pensions Richard Smith in The Financial Times Pensions.

I also wrote a book on Pensions – The Great British Pension Swindle. This is available on Amazon and was part of my recommendations to a Pension Select Committee. These recommendations to Government became law via Section 125 of the Pension Schemes Bill 2019 – 2021 .

I have also hold positions as an Elder at the Indigo Umbrella Group. As an elected Vice Chair of the Federation of Small Businesses – Crawley and Horsham.

I am also a lead over Action for Happiness Horsham.

Thirty Day Guide To Financial Freedom – step by step

I owned and managed a financial advice business for over twenty years. I realised that financial advice did not make people wealthy  – the industry really only served itself.

There is a clear lack of understanding about money and making money work (as evidenced by the lack of millionaires) I decided to do something about it. MoneyTrainers was going to my vehicle to make sure those that want to know, want to understand how money works – get access to what they need to know.

“If all you needed to do in order to become financially independent was to sit down in front of an adviser for thirty minutes a year and pay them for an hour of time – we’d all be lining up.

Up and down the high street people would be lining up for their hour of money help and assistance – ‘we’d all be millionaires in a couple of years’  – it’s not true.

Demand would be so strong we’d need millions of advisers, not just the thirty thousand odd there are now – we’d be camping out, desperate for them to show us the way – realistically – it’s bobbins – they don’t know much more than you, proof – they are still working.

If advisers had the answers to true financial independence – they’d do it for themselves first.

Fact is, it’s true.

Advisers don’t make people wealthy, you need more than advice and sadly that’s a truth the industry won’t admit. Knowing how to make sure your second most important resource works is the most important thing you can ever know. ” Richard Smith
